Cervical Erosion Silver Nitrate

PHR / experience of advanced studies world & discover / blog by Oliver Sutton

theme: fire, oven, outdoor cooking experience

Testimony

During our block week of recess times world and discover ( http://vswelterleben.blogspot.com/ ), we spent from Tuesday until Wednesday 18:10:05 19:10:05 two days in the forest. Under the expert guidance of Remo Gugolz (forest play groups and teacher training for teachers) and our lecturers Prof. Michael On top we got a fire without matches or making it lighter. We also built two different ovens and cook a big fireplace for.

fireplace

basic rule is to use already existing fireplaces. This can be increased or decreased depending on preference. In most cases, existing fire places already well-selected points are found. It is important that trees, shrubs, roots and the leaves are in a safe distance from the fire. Man / woman should note that the distance in width and in the amount large enough. The fireplace should be limited to big stones, so that dry grass or dry Leaves can not ignite. It is advantageous if a man / woman makes the fire in a place where it still has water in the vicinity. Thus, man / woman leaving the fireplace delete properly.

Ancient lighting a fire with flint

Remo Gugolz showed us, how could ignite with husband / wife simple means a fire. He took a flint in your left hand to the right a tool steel. He struck with the tool steel quickly to a flint edge. By the friction caused little spark. The sparks were caught with charred jeans and it began to glow.

Instead of charred jeans you could also use dry grass, lichen, or tinder fungus. The tinder fungus is found mainly birch. He was formerly placed in nitric acid and used as an igniter. Occasionally tinder fungus was also inserted in urine and dried ½ years, only to burn better. However, it was only the black bark placed the fungus.

In the picture, the fuels are shown.

Um bodenständige to cook meals on the fire, you need the right kitchen equipment. It's mainly steel pots and mess tin for cooking because they survive the high heat well and absorb the heat quickly. The steel pots below you can smear them with mud, so that the soot that is produced when cooking with wood, the bottom can not recognize.
We cooked stews, especially because they are very nutritious and because it requires little cooking.
An advantage of our cooker was that the Goldach 5 feet away from the fireplace. There we could wash our cookware. We took to wash leaves, twigs and sand. The sand acts like steel wool and is very for washing of burnt food residues.
To cook on the fire, you do not always pan. We baked bread, for example, directly on the red embers in the fire or on heated stones.

menu suggestions outside

During the two days was a whole lunch, dinner and an evening meal prepared and cooked on the fire.

menu from Tuesday night: rice stew

Broccoli, peppers, onions, garlic, potatoes, ginger, Zucetti)
third Add rice fry briefly

match the rice pot there was still flat breads that were baked right on the red embers.
The bread consisted of water, flour, salt and baking powder, which was kneaded into a dough. It is important that the pita bread is very flat and thin expresses that they can be baked quickly. On the baked pita bread, you can still add olive oil, salt and pepper before eating.

jaws with the fiery furnace

We had the task of building two different ovens.

Further thoughts

I can imagine with middle school students students to build small furnaces. I am thinking in particular of the oven with a tin kettle would be very suitable. Man / woman does not carry this very heavy stone slabs, it would even be worth a try, white tin cans lay directly on the coals and bake something small in it. I
might do something good with some pupils to cook a stew on the fire, but you have to schedule this much time. As a teacher could man / woman is a kind of workshop set up in the woods, in which the children can enroll for various services in advance and to do during an afternoon. Perhaps parents would be enthusiastic to actively help this afternoon. In the early evening could man / woman sitting by the campfire and enjoy the previously-prepared meal.
I could imagine it outside for the children and their parents an experience of nature would, because I think that in this day and age, the distance between Natural and man still continues to grow. Many people do not dare to do something more outdoor.

value of the event

I had before in the young guard in the military and cooked on the fire. The baking of bread in a homemade oven was new to me. I found it very interesting different bread baking techniques and breads to learn. What I also specifically found was very interesting introduction to the fire making Remo Gugolz. I had only ever heard that you can do with flint fire but it still never personally experienced live.
A highlight of this rather misty and cold outdoor days were for me each of the tasty dishes that certainly had a huge influence on our good well-being.
I thought it was great that we were getting a small group, on such a common project. I am convinced that we have all learned a lot, because we "act" and could not have been inundated with "dry" theory.
I think many of us could imagine students to share similar experiences in future also to the students. In my opinion, one keeps a bit longer, if it even with different senses wahrgenommen hat.
