The te snowstorm Sunday before (see above) and after (below)
As much as I may have no desire to Floridian to leave fields in my blog ... (I must, soon, because after only Disneytag comes before the departure) so I write today, but at a slightly more recent theme: the snow storm of this night. Snow storms, we are naturally accustomed to this season, aber dieser letzte Schneesturm war doch eine Besonderheit.
Am Samstag sah alles schon so schön aus, es regnete in Strömen, das Faschingsumzug - Zugucken ließen wir daher zuerst ausfallen bis uns auffiel, daß wir eh nach draußen mussten um die Stromrechnung zu bezahlen.
Die Stadt war dann schon voller betrunkener Damen und Herren mit den hier üblichen Plasteperlenketten in Grün, Gold und Lila (den offiziellen Mardi Gras Farben seit 1853) und auf den mit grauen Schneeresten gesäumten Straßen stand das Water ... On Monday morning we awoke in the dead of winter to ... 50-75 cm of fresh snow, the fifth-largest snowstorm in Vermont since the beginning of recording, the amount of snow, which otherwise is normal for the entire month of March fell in one night. The highways were blocked because of all the snow stuck cars and trucks, snow plows had to struggle so with the heavy wet snow that the engines began to burn, tow were not set by the jammed cars, the bus service, universities, schools remained closed authorities and most businesses as well. The Mayor asked all in Vermont to stay at home if it would not be one case of emergency, so that the clearance could quickly go forward.
Anand can not, of course, shocked by such little things, hoping simply for a quiet day at the office. He would then happily go to work, but at the front door, he stood as if turned to ... namely, there was not even any hint of way out there just bein deep snow everywhere you looked.
After some hours we saw the house owner next door with snow shoes and waddle around the house when the road was free of snow, saw the first pedestrian to struggle through the storm. Some time later, a girl left out of the (party) freshman-flat below us the house and fought his way to the street by, after a short time they returned with a case of beer in his hand when that was no pressing emergency by 12 clock noon.
Since our purchases were running low, we ran a little later also through the deep snow until we reached the road to saving the expensive organic market of almost around the corner to pay a visit. After that Anand wanted to drink coffee and actually had all the shops closed in the pedestrian passage, except for Starbucks ... Soon we were happily back home. I mean we can walk down the street is relatively free of snow, but under the snow was pure ice. Anand is now hoping very much that by tomorrow morning everything is half-way vacated, because he wanted to go to Boston.
Ich zerbreche mir derweil den Kopf über Eiscremefarben und Pferde. Ich nehme nämlich an einem Bastelaustausch statt und muß etwas für ein Mädchen basteln, nähen, malen oder wie auch immer, die eben eine Vorliebe für Pastellfarben und Pferde hat, während ich Angst habe nie mädchenhaft genug gewesen zu sein um mir jetzt rosane Einhörner oder hellblaue Ponies toll vorstellen zu können. Meine Ideen würden eher in die Richtung gehen: Man schneide eine Pferdesilhouette aus einer verrosteten Dose aus, schleif die Kanten ab, Klarlack drauf, zwei Löcher für Lederriemen und mit ein paar Perlen und Federn verzieren, fertig wäre eine Kette oder Wandschmuck. Unfortunately, very unpastellig. Well, as my craft skills are somewhat limited at present, I will probably paint it and discover my inner Girlygirl need ... :)
