Caacupé

Caacupé ist die Hauptstadt des Departamentos Cordillera des Staates Paraguay. Gegründet wurde die Stadt im Jahr 1770.
Bekannt ist die Stadt als katholischer Wallfahrtsort und die jährlich am 8. Dezember stattfindende Lichterprozession, an der etwa eine Million Pilgrims from all over the country participate.
Caacupé is the place where the national shrine is kept. The honor of the "common parent" established church was a donation by the Paraguayan people built. The construction period was 50 years (due to financial difficulties). The inauguration of this basilica was performed by His Holiness Pope John Paul II in 1988.
